We are seeking a Maintenance Manager who will be based in Africa to help us lead the deployment of our award-winning PhotonAssay technology. The successful applicant will be well qualified technically, have a proven track record in an engineering maintenance manager role, and be keen to develop their skills in a fast-moving commercial environment. This role can be based in West Africa (Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea) or East Africa (Tanzania or surrounding countries).

The role of the role…

The Maintenance Manager – Africa, will lead the maintenance team who are responsible for routine maintenance and service visits to maintain 24/7 equipment availability.

We are looking for an experienced team leader who has experience in leading and building a maintenance team across West and East Africa. The successful applicant will manage recruitment, ensure availability of critical spares and qualified personnel at operating sites, develop diagnostic, maintenance and service procedures, and coordinate with clients, external technicians and local trades people.

The Maintenance Manager – Africa, in carrying out of their duties:

  • Report directly to Chrysos’ Operations Manager,
  • Work closely with Chrysos customers to facilitate maintenance and technical support of PhotonAssay systems,
  • Interact with technical staff from Chrysos’ partners and local trades people to coordinate service and repairs,
  • Interact with scientists and engineers in the Chrysos product development teams.

The nitty gritty.

  • Manage the maintenance and technical support of PhotonAssay (PA) systems within Africa.
  • Lead and manage the maintenance team within Africa.
  • Design, develop and implement systems and processes to ensure high-availability operations of Chrysos installations in Africa.
  • Develop and maintain systems to provide responsive and flexible customer service, providing support for clients via on-site visits, telephone, email and remote computer access for troubleshooting and performance checks.
  • Work with manufacturing and product development teams to deliver improvements in reliability and serviceability.
  • Work with current operations and maintenance personnel to build knowledge of the PhotonAssay technology, including assisting with short-term provision of on-site service.
  • Assist with the writing of product documentation and manuals and the delivery of customer training.
  • Ensure the Chrysos global safety practices are applied in all Africa locations.
  • Own and drive continuous improvement of safety thinking and processes for our Africa operations.
  • Ensure team are undertaking safety first practices at all time.

OK, so what are we looking for?

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, science, mining or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an engineering maintenance manager role, developing and implementing maintenance processes and leading a team of service engineers, in applications requiring very high equipment availability.
  • Familiarity with the mining industry and mine-site operations, in particular mine-site safety and reporting requirements.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Able and willing to travel and work within Africa and overseas, including at remote locations such as mine sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and processes.
  • Customer Service and Field Service experience in mining, mining services, mineral processing or related industries.
  • Team leadership in a diverse environment, potentially across international operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in fault finding in electrical, electronic or mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: mechanical maintenance and repairs; basic electronics; engineering drawing and design.
  • Familiarity with office productivity software such as SharePoint, Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
